The new software advancements for waterproof metal detectors have gained the interest of many new beach treasure hunters. The complex microprocessors that we find in todays best waterproof metal detectors can process target information that is very fast, accurate and reliable.
Waterproof Beach Metal Detectors
If you’re looking for information about really good waterproof metal detectors, would you search for one that had the most positive reviews? I narrowed down your search to the models with the most positive reviews based on actual user input, not from a manufacture point of view.
When it comes to those serious beach & ocean hunts, waterproof metal detectors are recognized for their durability and accuracy.
Based on my past hunts in The Outer Banks, there are two waterproof metal detectors that will won’t let you down.
Garrett Sea Hunter II
Minelab Excalibur II
These are the best submersible beach metal detectors & feature Pulse Induction (PI) circuitry technology. If you spend a lot of time at the beach, choose one of these durable machines.
The Garrett Sea Hunter Mark II is a very reliable waterproof metal detector. You can hunt in chest deep surf, on the beach or dive on a shipwreck at 200 feet!
I have personally owned a Sea Hunter for the past 4 years now. “We” have spent most of that time hunting in the chest deep surf in Corova, North Carolina.
The cool thing about this metal detector is the control box can be moved off the control shaft and worn around your waist. This greatly reduces arm fatigue after a days worth of surf hunting.
This is a durable waterproof metal detector with 5 star reviews. Visit this link for a much better video perspective of this beach metal detector.
The Garrett Sea Hunter Mark II is a strong pulse induction type of metal detector. This means it’s a deep targeting beach metal detector when the discrimination is at zero, averaging 14″+ max depth when targeting an ordinary quarter in the wet sand!
With this machine, you can target the beaches in your area that can be considered “low trash” or beach areas that have been hunted previously by other hunters. The Sea Hunter Mark II will find what they missed. To find out more about the Garrett Sea Hunter II, please click here.
The Minelab Excalibur II metal detector is a waterproof beach, surf and diving metal detector that has been well-established with the surf hunters. Check out this review page about The Minelab Excalibur II as it offers more insight from other Excalibur II users. Here is this hands-on video of The Minelab Excalibur II.
This metal detector allows for fine discrimination settings that will eliminate:
hurricane fence wire
Keep in mind, small gold like thin rings and necklaces are also in the lower portion of the gold detection range of all metal detectors, just like the pull tabs. The software that was developed for the Minelab Excalibur II keys in on the audio clarity differences between trash and valuables buried in front of you.
This beach gold metal detector covers an incredible 17 frequencies and that means more treasure for you. The Minelab Excalibur II targets more valuables, discriminates more junk and goes deeper than most submersible treasure metal detectors.
If ship wreck diving is your preference, The Minelab Excalibur II can be submersed down to 200 feet. Just like the Sea Hunter II, the control box can be hip mounted. To find out more information about The Minelab Excalibur II gold metal detector and the available package deals, please click here.
These waterproof metal detectors are the best & have plenty of positive reviews. Try one & see how quickly you loose track of time.
Take the time to learn your machine as well as possible before heading out to the beach. A great idea is to set up a small test garden sand box somewhere in your yard with foil, bottle caps, coins and maybe a gold ring tied to a cotton string. These can be buried at various depths and some coins buried on their edge. Visit You Tube often and watch all videos concerning your model beach metal detector.

Can you see yourself on the beach metal detecting? When and where would this take place?
An occasional “get away” to do something fun?
Are you a diver and explorer of ship wrecks looking to enhance the experience?
Both of these metal detectors are excellent for the diving and surf hunts. The Minelab Excalibur II offers more precise discrimination settings, sacrificing very little loss in detection depth. In the chest deep surf, I prefer The Sea Hunter because it’s a deep seeking PI machine. This forum may help you decide.
As far as beach metal detecting on the dry sand, I leave this up to The Minelab Excalibur II. The discrimination settings available at your finger tips can’t be matched. Hunting with 17 frequencies at the same time means that you won’t miss any buried targets by accident.
If your beach is considered low trash or if you know a stretch of beach that’s unique, the Sea Hunter II is a great choice. I have a large sand scoop for the beach, because the Sea Hunter II goes deeeper than any other affordable beach gold metal detector.
